The Compound Microscope
In 1623 Galileo Galilei mentioned an invention that would still be used to this day. He wanted a telescope that “modified to see objects very close". Before the name the "microscope was made original scientists would call it an "occhialino", a "cannoncino", a "perspicillo", and an "occhiale".
The first microscopes of the "Galilean" type had, like the telescope, a concave lens and a convex one mounted in a rigid tube. Because of this scientists are allowed to see more clearly.
Galileo himself did not make the microscope as it called today but he thought of the idea of a small telescope to see micro things. The microscopes came around about the same time as the telescope.
